Curriculum: Overview

CurriculumOur Foundational Beliefs about Curriculum

Curriculum is not merely defined as the subjects that we teach.  It should not be defined as the publishing company that produces our textbooks. The curriculum is the entire life of the school. It consists of everything that we teach. The simplest definition of curriculum is:  “It is all the material we are committed to teaching our children.” The mission of the First Presbyterian Day School states:

Believing that children are a heritage of the Lord, the mission of FPDS is:

  • Planting seeds of Christ-likeness in the hearts of children

  • Pursuing excellence in academics

  • Preparing students for future service in God’s kingdom in their homes, churches, and professions

In order to carry out this mission, what we choose to teach and the materials we choose to use are crucial. Careful and prayerful consideration and evaluation are given to selecting a curriculum that will enable students to grow spiritually and academically, and will equip them for future service in God’s kingdom as they fulfill their Christian calling.
